Finished by Faithfulness // Ezra 6:14-16
The rebuilding of the temple in Ezra 6 is more than a construction story—it’s a testimony of God’s unstoppable plan. For years, the work had stalled due to fear, opposition, and political interference. But here in chapter 6, we see a holy reversal: what once seemed impossible was completed. Why? Because God was behind the work, and He used His Word and His people to finish what He started.
Note three powerful truths in this passage:
1. God Prospers What He Ordains (v. 14)
The elders prospered through the prophesying—that is, they were encouraged and directed by the Word of God spoken through His prophets. When we allow God’s Word to guide our work, we can trust that He will give us what we need to succeed in His will.
2. God Finishes What He Starts (v. 14)
“They builded, and finished it.” What a satisfying phrase! God is not only the Author of good works but the Finisher (see Philippians 1:6). Even when there’s delay or opposition, God’s plans aren’t canceled—they’re just waiting for the appointed time.
3. God Brings Joy After Obedience (v. 16)
When the people dedicated the house of God, they did it with joy. Joy doesn’t come from avoiding struggle, but from seeing God’s hand bring victory through it. Joy is the reward of those who wait on the Lord and walk in His ways.
